Welcome to the Blog—From Hobby to Passion: My Journey in Photography

A big shot of my head to welcome you to the blog. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Leica M9 w/ TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4

Taking the time to slow down and really consider a scene is what draws me to photography—the way a single image can tell a story without saying a word. I’ve found that photography gives me a reason to pause and really notice the stories a place holds. What started as a hobby turned into a real passion for photography—despite what it’s done to my bank account. That passion naturally pulled me into the deep hole of film photography, and honestly, I haven’t found the bottom yet.

I’m Kyler, an environmental photographer based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I love shooting film.

Finding My Way Back to Photography

Funny enough, photography wasn’t always my passion. It was more of a forgotten one until a few years ago when I remembered how much I loved shooting photojournalism for the school paper.

That’s what made me pick up a camera again—and it’s exactly why I started this blog. Because I love photography, and I love writing about it.

This is where I’ll share the stories behind my photos, the places I find, the gear I use, and a bit of what I’ve learned along the way.

One of the first photos that made me fall back in love with photography. Taken in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Leica iiib w/ Leica 50mm f/2 Summitar on Kodak Ektar 100.

Why Another Photography Blog?

Now, I know what you might be thinking—“There are so many blogs and vlogs out there, what makes this one any different?”

Fair question. First off, I plan to write this whether anyone reads it or not. If the only person following along is my wife because I made her, that’s just fine.

But honestly, I also want this to be a resource for other photographers—especially those here in Tulsa—who’ve had the same questions I’ve wrestled with and couldn’t find answers.

I’ll be transparent about the things I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, and what’s worked (or absolutely hasn’t).

Tulsa has a way of surprising you—if you slow down enough to notice. Shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Leica M9 w/ Voigtlander 35mm f/1.7 Ultron

What You Can Expect Here

And hey, at the very least, maybe this gives you something to read when you’re supposed to be working, scrolling on the toilet, or just out of other content.

Either way, I hope you’ll find some helpful info, maybe a little inspiration, and a laugh here and there.

These shots are why film is expensive, but completely worth it. Shot in Nairn, Scotland with the Hasselblad 500c w/ Zeiss 60mm f/3.5 Distagon on Kodak Gold 200.
